The company, has previously received multiple awards including the 2015 Index Award, which focuses on new sustainable products for global challenges. Layer Designs’ focus on sustainability pushes for their products to be adaptable and have the power to transform with the changing needs of the industry and individual demands for recyclability. ‘Scale’, an acoustic, demountable, sculptural space divider is a perfect example of the new techniques they are constantly developing. The stand-alone acoustic system can grow and shrink with the ever-changing work environment.

Following the company’s increased focus towards developing intelligent materials, the company’s most recent accomplishment, ‘Tent’, has seen a two year development period and took 20 prototypes to create. The chair, which does not contain a single stitch, is comprised of steam activated 3D knitted cushions, seamless sleeves and a single textile cover.

Layer is set to unveil the world’s first seamless knitted seat this month as part of Salone del Mobile.
