Spring-cleaning is right around the corner, and while this is something we often put off, working remotely has merged our professional and personal lives leaving many of us in need of more space! Taking the time to de-clutter can sometimes feel like a chore but in the long run it will leave you feeling more organised and help you re-claim the study that has, over the years, become a museum.
To help you get started with your spring clean we’ve enlisted the help of Jeremy Rosen, Managing Director at TAXIBOX (a mobile self-storage company) to share his top five tips on how to find more space in your home, because everyone knows that spring cleaning is like a treasure hunt, you never know what you’ll find!
Check out Jeremy’s tips below:
- It’s all about planning
Planning is essential! Before you start your spring clean it is best to make a list so that you can keep a track of what you have, and what you may be looking to remove from the space you are cleaning. Consider categories such as clothes, keepsakes, or junk and tackle each of them one at a time. This will keep you from feeling like the task is too overwhelming, and will leave you feeling accomplished as you tick things off your list.
- Organise like your life depends on it
One of the easiest ways to maximise the space that you have is to stay organised! De-cluttering isn’t only about getting rid of things but also changing the way that things are stored. Consider adding shelving to a room or try using tubs that can be labelled and stacked. These don’t have to take away from the aesthetic of the room either – you can find boxes that are patterned or find other ways to make storage solutions a part of your overall design!
- Clean as you go
If you want to avoid a mess at the end of what is meant to be a ‘spring clean’ – clean as you go. This means, do your de-clutter in stages and don’t let things pile up. As you clear each area, get straight into vacuuming it, wiping it down, or even repainting it. Don’t leave this until you have moved to organising another section of the room/house and filled the once empty space with new items.
- Consider if you currently use an item, will use it in the future, or don’t need it anymore
You know what they say – “out of sight, out of mind”. If you aren’t using it often, get RID OF IT! When spring cleaning try to organise your items based on how much you use them, and ask yourself if you currently use the item, will use it in the future of don’t need it anymore. For items that you no longer need, consider donating to charity, or giving it to a family member/friend that may use it. With that being said, we know at the end of the day, it can also be difficult to part with some items. So read on to see what other options you have!
- Storage, storage and more storage
A place for everything and everything in its place. If you are looking to re-claim space in your home, you may not be able to keep all your possessions within your four walls. That’s where storage comes in! Storage units have come a long way in the last few years and TAXIBOX, a mobile self-storage solution is all about making the process of storing your items easy.
All it takes is three simple steps:
- Book your TAXIBOX to have it delivered by the team
- Pack and lock your TAXIBOX
- Have it collected to be stored in the storage facility
