First they brought us the Silt apartment at Kangaroo Point, now award-winning architecture firm Bureau Proberts has returned to bring us an apartment living concept never before seen in Australia: a vertical forest. Taking the phrase ‘urban jungle’ to new heights, the 14-storey Walan apartment complex boasts a literal vertical forest with full size trees and mature shrubs scaling the façade.

A project unlike any other Australia has seen before, the project’s architect Liam Probers drew inspiration directly from nature, creating a truly unique tribute to Queensland’s subtropical landscape. Trees will grow up the spine of the Main Street elevation, covering the building to create an external garden that honours the native forests of the land. This deep connection to the surrounding landscape continues in the building’s interiors, with natural stone inspired by the adjacent Kangaroo Point Cliffs used as a key feature in each apartment’s interior.

With construction due to begin imminently, this  forest in the clouds is certain to make an unforgettable impression on the Queensland skyline, and  though it might be the first of it’s kind in Australia, we certainly hope it won’t be the last
