The roots of de Sede’s success are the traditional leather expertise combined with the endeavor to offer unique furniture through constant innovation. With the DS-5050 by designer Kai Stania, who designed the extravagant Pouf for de Sede, the German Design Council honors this unmistakable design.

The DS-5050 is a leather that has been crafted to the highest standards of craftsmanship and technical sophistication. Designer Kai Stania wanted to make as much leather as possible visible, according to the de Sede DNA. Because of its resemblance to a French meringue biscuit, the designer lovingly named the stool “Macaron”. This unusual shape also convinced the experts.
The Design Council commented on his decision: “The stool looks as if several round cushions had been casually stacked on top of each other, which creates an informal appearance.
Whether at the lowest height as a style object or at the maximum height as an additional stool, the avant-garde design of the DS-5050 hides a particularly practical feature: the stool can grow continuously by 11.5 cm using a fine leather loop attached to the side. Thus, the intelligent Pouf can be easily adapted to the individual needs of the seated person within a few seconds.
The leather sculpture is also optionally available as a table. The soft seat is replaced by a noble table top and complements every DS-5050 seating round stylishly.
“In fact, there is a height-adjustable mechanism concealed inside which is completely hidden by the bellows-like design made of wonderfully soft leather. A special, unmistakable design draft”, said the jury.
Thus, the DS-5050 easily manages the balancing act between modern design and high functionality and at the same time fulfils the strict criteria of the German Design Council. The result is an excellent product that can be used in many ways.
