Husband and wife team, Leif and Erin Smart from Martini Furniture were delighted to have their handmade, luxurious velvet cushion appear in Mitch and Mark’s formal lounge room in this season of The Block.
It’s not often that sustainability is thought of when it comes to the speed and amount of money invested in building The Block properties, but in choosing Martini Furniture’s new cushion range the contestants helped to reduce their environmental footprint a tiny bit.
The Olive Velvet Cushion with button detail looked right at home among their contemporary, rich velvet stylings, within what will be a multi-million dollar space in The Oslo in St Kilda.
“Our Martini Designs range of cushions was developed as an answer to reusing the waste created by manufacturing our custom made upholstered bedheads.” says Erin.
“We wanted to find a use for the left over fabric, to reduce landfill, in a luxe, high-end way, without compromising style or quality” says Leif.
The self-confessed The Block superfan, Erin, was thrilled when she found out Mitch and Mark had chosen their cushion for their high-end townhouse on the show, as it validated that she had nailed the high-end, luxe look and feel she had aimed for.
Martini Furniture is a husband and wife owned small business, operating out of their Thornbury workshop in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
In the two short years since opening, Erin and Leif have developed the business into a nationally recognised brand, custom making upholstered bedheads and cushions in bright, vibrant colours and patterns, and delivering them Australia-wide.
Underwhelmed with the saturation of neutral, scandi-style mass-produced homewares, Martini Furniture was developed as a way to shake neutral decor up with colour, and help people reimagine the way they use colour in their interiors.
This is the second year that Martini Furniture have appeared on The Block, supplying four upholstered bedheads into the 2018 series of The Block in The Gatwick, also in St Kilda. This included supplying the bedhead into Bianca and Carla’s winning guest room.
